Let Your Light Shine

Let Your Light Shine
1 Timothy 6:17-18; Ephesians 2:10

Matthew 5:16 "Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven". Jesus speaking in our opening scripture commands believers to let our light so shine before the world. Then He went on to explain what light He meant. He called our light good works, that is, works of love, grace and hospitality. He also said to let our light (good works) so shine before the world such that they will see our good works and give glory to God. This means good works done by believers bring glory to God. The bible is not against good works. Many have misunderstood good works for works of the law. Good works are works done by the grace of God at work in us, not by our self-effort or righteousness of keeping the law. The Word declares in 1 Timothy 6:18 that believers should be rich in good works; "That they do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to distribute, willing to communicate". This is the biblical way to shine our light before the world to the end that glory might come to our Heavenly Father God. In Matthew 5:14 the Word declares that we are the light of the world, meaning the world can't see their way to God without us. Christians can't live like the devil and expect to attract the world to God, no! We are the light of the world. Beloved, let your light so shine that the world may see your good works of God's grace at work in you, and give glory to your Heavenly Father.

Other Scriptures for Meditation: Colossians 1:9-10; 2 Corinthians 9:8
